Road Construction Updates

The purpose of this page is to keep you informed of the latest news regarding road construction projects happening in Greenfield.

2017 Projects

Sidewalk will be added along W. Howard Avenue near S. 48th Street. In addition, sidewalk will be added along the east side of S. 35th Street from W. Barnard Avenue to W. Armour Avenue. Storm water drainage will be improved along S. 35th Street. No further work to the roadway will be performed. Streets within the project area will remain open during construction.
Pedestrian safety improvements will be made in the vicinity of three schools: Elm Dale Elementary School, Glenwood Elementary School and Greenfield Middle School. Improvements include flashing school zone signs, asphalt paths, sidewalks and traffic calming measures. No major work to the roadway will occur. Streets within the project area will remain open during construction.
This neighborhood will be rehabilitated by removing and replacing the asphalt pavement by mill and overlay. Spot repair of curb and gutter will occur and there will be no additional travel lanes or sidewalks. Decorative street lighting will be added throughout the neighborhood at intersections and some mid-block locations. Streets within the project area will remain open during construction.
W. Edgerton Avenue will be reconstructed from W. Loomis Road to S. 27th Street in 2017. The existing roadway will be widened to include curb and gutter, one travel and one utility lane in each direction as well as sidewalk on both sides of the street. Street lighting and storm water drainage improvements will be included. Throughout construction W. Edgerton Avenue will be closed to through traffic and a signed detour route will be present.
Milwaukee County is rehabilitating the S. 76th Street intersections with W. Edgerton Avenue and W. Layton Avenue. Improvements will be made to the traffic signals, left turn lanes and handicap accessible ramps. Construction will include lane closures and additional congestion is expected in the area. The project will be completed in stages - please drive with caution through the construction zone!
